Prefixes- Take Two

Root: A word root of a word without prefixes or suffixes. The root may not always be a complete word by itself, but it must contain a meaning. Example: “
2. The educator will then review the meaning of “prefix,” “root word,” and the five prefixes that the students were assigned.
3. The instructor will explain that the students will be playing a game today using prefixes.
Prefix Practice:
The teacher will call out a root word, and the students’ objective is to hold up the prefix card(s) that can be combined with the root word to create a new word. The teacher will then call on a pupil and ask them what word he or she made. Once the student has answered the teacher will write the word under the prefix on the board.
4. The teacher and students will play the game for approximately ten minutes.
5. When the game is completed, the teacher will tell the students to write down the examples of each prefix that the class generated.
